1-2-07 - Well it has been a while since our last update. We hope everyone had a great holiday season.
The team has been busy working in the shop over the past couple of months. The car is primarily done, except for paint. Marvin of M&D Auto Body is painting the car as I type this update.
Beau is very excited about the up coming season! He is looking forward to racing at his old stomping ground, The Sportsdrome Speedway in Jeffersonville. The races at the Sportsdrome will be on Wednesday nights starting in June.
We are proud to announce it appears that all of our sponsors from last year will be with us in 2007. Without these great people and companies it would be tough for Beau to chase his dreams.
We will try and do a better job on future updates and we look forward to seeing everyone at the tracks, starting in March.
1-8-07 We got the car back from Marvin at the paint shop on Friday and spent the weekend putting the body on the chassis. Thanks to Bill Heil for helping this weekend in the shop. The car is ready to go for the 2007 season!
3-17-07 - The first race weekend is in the books. Saturday, the car was a little off during the first couple of practices. All through practice Beau explained to the crew what the car was doing and needed. We made a few minor changes before qualifying. Beau encountered a couple of issue during the qualifying session. One issue was purely inconsideration from another driver. The other was a break in concentration. All things said he qualified fourteenth out of twenty-six cars. This gave him a starting position on the outside of the seventh rows for the feature.
The rough start to the weekend got even rougher on the first lap of the feature. After the waving of the green flag, Beau had a great start and was able to get to the inside lane going into turn one. The leaders bunched up and the field began to bunch up. Beau was able to slow the Titon Energy car down; unfortunately one of the rookies in the race was not so lucky and run into the back of the car. Fortunately there was no major suspension damage and Beau was able to continue. The other car was not so lucky and rolled over. Due to the caution a total restart was called and Beau again lined up on the outside of row seven. The green flag flew and the race began and Beau started working his way through the field. Beau finished in the tenth position and feels fortunate to have a top ten finish under the circumstances. The body of the car was pretty tore up on the first lap incident (what a way to start the season)!
3-18-07 ? On Sunday the car was much better. We recheck the setup prior to practice in the morning. Practice went very well and the car was good. Beau had a better qualifying session and qualified in the ninth position for the feature. This allowed him to start on the inside of row four. After the flagman waved the green flag, he decided he did not like the initial start and though the yellow for a total restart. Beau had a very good start in this feature and settled into the ninth position. After a couple of laps, he began to work his way up through the field. He passed a couple of cars in the next few laps and settled in the seventh position. The car was handling much better compared to Saturdays race.
Beau continued to work on the field in front of him and was able to pass two more cars before the end of the race. He ended up finishing in the top five. Beau was very excited to have a good finish on Sunday and looks forward to the rest of the season!
3-24-07 ? On Saturday day the car the car preformed fairly well off the trailer, but we did need to make some minor adjustments during practice. The KOIL promoters decided to use the practice times for qualifying. Beau ran the eight fastest time in practice. Today was the first race day of the year we were scheduled to run heat races.
Beau?s practice time gave him a starting position on the outside of the second row in the second semi-pro heat race. After the flagman through the green flag to start the race, Beau was able to drop into the third position coming off turn two. The field settled in for the next few laps. With about two laps left in the eight lap heat race, Beau worked his way around the third place car, were he finished in the second position.
Beau started on the outside of row two for the feature and settled into the sixth position. He ran a very good race and obtained a top five position at the waving of the checkered flag.
3-25-07 ? After talking with Beau Saturday night, we decided to make some changes to the car. The car handled much better in practice and qualifying went well. Beau qualified fifth fastest on Sunday out of twenty-four cars. He said the car was still a little tight for the feature and wanted to make a slight change before the feature. After making the change, Beau started on the inside of row three for the feature race. It was clear after the start of the race; the changes we made to the car were to much. The car was very loose during the race and Beau had a hard time controlling it and dropped back right off the start. He was able to work his way back through the field and finished in the 11th position by the end of the race.
5-7-07 Sorry for the delay in updates, actually the racing has been somewhat slow for our team. But Beau did race this past weekend. We were at the Florence Speedway.
This was Beau?s first attempt at a dirt track. The experience went very well. Practice went well and the car was great off the trailer. Beau started on the outside of row two for the heat race, due to the draw.
When the green flag waved, Beau had a very good start and assumed the third place position. He ran for a few laps before he was able to get past the second place car. A caution bunched the field up for a restart and Beau used a lot of patients and began to work on the leader. With two laps to go in the race coming off turn four Beau made his move under the leader and took the front position. After taking the lead he settle into a steady pace and was turning some of the fastest laps of the race. Beau went on to take the checkered flag for his first dirt race win in as many attempts.
By virtue of his finish in the heat race and an invert draw of eight, Beau started on the inside of row four for the feature. Beau assumed the eighth position at the start of the race and worked his way past seventh and sixth places. A caution waved after only a few laps of racing. Beau had a very good restart and was running in the fifth position, battling for the four position. After a couple of more laps a car blew an oil line going into turn three and stacked the field up once again. Beau was able to slow his car down before becoming involved, when another car ran into the back of him. When all this happened, it broke the rear bumper and the official made Beau go to the infield. Unfortunately, this ended the race for him. We believe the car was a top running car and could have easily finished the race in the top three or possibly have won!
Needless to say Beau really liked dirt track racing! We would like to really thank Toby Alfrey for all the help he gave Beau, not only this weekend but the entire season so far.
5-28-07 The team spent Friday and Saturday in Indianapolis over the weekend. We arrived at the track Friday afternoon in time for practice. We spent time working on the setup during the afternoon, trying to get ready for Racing that evening. Unfortunately, the rain set in and racing was canceled for the night.
We returned to the track Saturday morning and started making changes to the car based on the results we end with the previous day. Beau turn some respectful lap times during practice on Saturday. When qualifying came around, Beau struggled with the car and ended up 17th out of 28 drivers.
It just goes to show even when you are struggling, sometimes you get a break. Due to the inversion, Beau started the first heat race on the pole. The start of the race was very good and Beau led the first four laps of the eight lap heat race. On the fifth lap the second place car, which was very fast, got a little impatient and ended up spinning Beau out while he was leading. This caused Beau and the other car to move to the rear of the field with four laps to go in the race.
When the green flag was thrown Beau began his move back to the front. Again a couple of cars got tied up, brining out another caution. By that time Beau was back in fifth place. When racing resumed Beau started out in third. By the time the checkered flag flew, Beau finished in the second position.
Because he was able to move back into second during the heat race, Beau started the feature in the third position. When the green flag was waved for the start of the race, Beau settled into the third position going into turn one. By the time the field raced to turn four, a car on the outside forced Beau over one of the speed bumps, causing a lot of the cars in the back to start wreaking in turn four.
Due to the field not completing one full lap before the caution a total restart was called for, again Beau started in the third position. On the restart the field was able to settle in and Beau assumed the second position. He ran the next few laps before the cars behind he and the leader were able to work their way to them. By this time Beau?s car became tight. He tried to hold them off as long as he could and they were beating on him pretty hard. The third place car eventually got under beau and made the pass with the fourth place car following him through. This placed Beau in the fourth position, were he ended the race.
LASTLY, WE WANT TO THANK JOE HUBER FOR COMING ON BOARD AS A SPONSOR LAST WEEK!! Please visit the Joe Huber SODA POP SHOPPE in beautiful Starlight, IN. Tell them Beau sent you!
6-21-07 It has been a long time since the last update! Beau has been extremely busy racing over the last few weeks; the schedule has been very grueling. We have race eight times since the last update. Of the eight races, Beau has finished in the top five six times with his best finish (2nd) at Kentucky Motor Speedway the day of the Busch race. The low point of the schedule was at the Speedrome in Indianapolis were his finished 16, due to an on track incident that put him out of the race. Beau currently sits in third for series points and is working hard to continue a great season!
7-31-07 it?s way past time for another update! Beau race three times last week with two races on dirt tracks. On Wednesday July 18, he raced at the Jeffersonville Sportsdrome. The car experienced some handling issues throughout the evening. We made some adjustments to the car prior to the heat race and Beau started in the sixth position. The car was still a little too tight during the heat, but Beau was able to complete the race in the fourth position. After the draw for the inversion for the feature Beau started the race in the tenth position and run a very good race, finishing in the seventh position (third in class).
On Thursday July 19, we headed off to the first dirt race of the week at the Lawrenceburg Speedway. The car handled fairly well off the trailer and only needed minor adjustments before the heat race. Beau started on the outside of the second row in the heat race and lead the first couple of laps, before giving up the position to another car. He went on to finish the heat in second place, but was awarded the win after the first place car was penalized for jumping the start. Due to his finish in the heat race Beau was to start on the outside of the front row for the feature. The start of the race was very good and Beau settled into the second position for five to six laps. After the first caution during the restart a couple of cars were able to get around Beau for position. Again Beau settled into position and started to battle with the fourth place car to regain that position. After a couple of laps there was another incident on the track that brought out the caution flag. During the cleanup of the track the car following Beau during the caution ran into the back of him and tore the bumper tab off the frame. Luckily the official did not see the tab was broke to quickly and Beau restarted the race in the fifth position. The field ran a couple of laps and before Beau got a little out of shape coming off the turn, giving the car behind time to close in. Going into the next turn the car behind him hooked his bumper and finished pulling it away from the frame. The officials proceed to direct beau off the track, ending his night.
On Saturday July 21, we headed to the half mile dirt track in Florence Kentucky. During the first and only practice of the day the car was very tight through the turns. We made adjustments to the car in preparation of the heat race. Beau started on the outside of row two in the heat (due to the pill draw). At the start of the race it was obvious we had not adjusted the car were it needed to be and still had a severe push in the turns. Beau maintained his attitude and was able to finish the heat in the fourth position. Due to the inversion and his finishing spot in the heat Beau was schedule to start on the pole for the feature. His start in the feature was not a good as he would have like and he had to settle for second going into the first turn. Beau ran in the second position for the next few laps, before some of the other pros in the field were able to work their way around him. When the field lined out Beau was running in the seventh position going for the white lap, when the leader tangled with a lap car on the front stretch and brought out a red flag. Beau came to a stop in the middle of the first and second turn. After a lengthy caution the field was instructed to restart their engines and restart the race. This is where thing really went bad for the team. The car would not restart, even with the help of another competitor giving Beau a push (Thanks to John Wachter for the effort). Beau pulled the car to the pits and the night was over with only one lap to go in the feature. Although disappointed Beau will return to the dirt tracks, until he gets the finish he is looking for!
The highlight to the weekend is Beau took the points lead for the KOIL tour.
8-15-07 TIME for an update! Beau raced at the Kentucky Motor Speedway on August 4 and 5. We struggled with the car on both days. Beau finished eighth on Saturday and had to pull out of the race on Sunday.
The highlight during the racing week was at the Jeffersonville Sportsdome on Wednesday August 8. We went to the track with a slightly different setup on the car. During the first practice Beau explained the car was way too loose. We made adjustment to the car before the second practice and he was much happier with the car at that point. He started on the pole for his heat race and led the first couple of laps, before the car developed a slight push in the turns. A couple of cars were able to get underneath him and he finished in the third position. Due to his finish in the heat race and the inversion, Beau was scheduled to start on the inside of the second row for the feature race. The first start of the race was yellow flagged due to poor car alignment. Once the race finally got under way Beau settled into the second position, before a couple of cars tangled on the front stretch on the second lap. After the restart of the yellow flag, Beau again settled in to the second position. The cars ran one more lap before Beau was able to work his way past the leader. He took the front spot with 22 laps to go in the race. Beau kept his composer while the cars behind him worked to get by. We want to thank the other racers, especially Byron Stowe for running a clean race. Beau held on to the lead to win his first feature race, since his career started in the legends series.
We would like to take this time to express our gratitude to the sponsors and people who have helped us accomplish this win and season so far. Without Sponsors like Joe Huber?s, Foster Waterproofing and Southern Indiana Equipment, it would not be possible for Beau to achieve his dreams. We would also like to thank Alfrey Motorsports (Toby) for all their help throughout the season. Also a major help to Beau and his team this year have been John and Tony Wachter. We hope we have not left anyone out; there have been so many supporting Beau this year! Thank you to all who have helped!
11-5-07 - The season has ended. Beau had a great year in 2007. He had 2 feature wins, 3 second place finishes, 4 third place finishes and 5 fifth place finishes. He had a total of 16 top five finishes for the season. He had 26 top ten finishes during the year. He finished fourth overall in the KOIL semi-pro division tour and fifth in the Sportsdrome series. He finished 36 overall in the nation, out of well over 700 competitors. Beau gained a lot of experience during the 2007 racing season and looks forward to challenging for the tour championship in 2008.
We want to THANK all the people who helped and supported Beau throughout the 2007 season. Joe Huber Family Farm and Restaurant (Soda Popp Shop), John Jones Automotive Outlet, Fosters Waterproofing, Southern Indiana Equipment, M&D Auto Body Repair and Mobil 1 oil. We also want to thank all of the fans that showed their support during the season as well.
11-19-07 ? We attended the KOIL tour awards banquet this weekend. Beau accepted his awards during the banquet. He was recognized for his fifth place finish in the Sportsdrome series and his overall fourth place finish in the KOIL tour semi-pro division. Beau gave a gracious acceptance speech and recognized all his sponsors and co--competitors for a successful year.
Beau is busy contacting individuals and companies he thinks he can help promote during the upcoming 2008 season. He is hoping there are a few individuals/companies that would like to be involved with him during the 2008 season. We keep our fingers crossed and look forward to another great year!
